Characteristics

Belclare sheep are white in colour, polled with strong feet, good fleece and minimum mastitis problems.

Ewes are docile, have excellent mothering ability with a minimum of lambing difficult and are capable of rearing three lambs if given adequate feed during lactation.

Belclare cross ewes have proven themselves in a wide range of farming conditions with many valuable attributes being noted in compliments paid to them.

Ø Great mothers
Ø Great milkers
Ø Fewer losses at lambing time
Ø Very hardy lambs that get up and suck quickly
Ø Easily lambed
“To my mind the growth rates, sales pattern and carcass quality of these lambs indicated that prolific Belclare cross ewes can produce quality as well as quantity”.
